MS AFT Issues

When you consider that of the 50 nationally ranked poorest school districts, Mississippi has 37.   When 65% of the school population is termed disadvantaged, a menu of issues does not do the subject justice.  When there is a fight every year to fully fund the Mississippi Adequate Education Program (MAEP), a simple outline of what is needed is not scratching the surface.

We, as a Union, strive for a quality education for the children of Mississippi, one professional voice of our members, and the betterment of Mississippi as a whole.  Our issues are educational concerns that include but are not limited to MAEP, personnel compensation, discipline, testing and working conditions.   Other concerns are health and safety issues, mandatory kindergarten attendance, and issues relating to the quality of life in Mississippi.

These are some of our concerns but there are many more we must continually work toward a positive resolution.  Our issues simply stated are those issues we must confront on a daily basis so that Mississippi can  progress from the bottom of educational and quality of life rankings.
